Your Instagram bio link is one of the only clickable spots Instagram gives you. When it stops working, every post, story, and reel that says "link in bio" leads nowhere — and you quietly lose clicks, followers, and sales without even noticing.

The good news: almost every broken-bio-link problem comes down to a handful of causes, and most take seconds to fix. Below are the 8 fixes that solve it, in the order you should try them.
Why your Instagram bio link stops working
Before the fixes, it helps to know the usual culprits:
- The link was typed into the bio text instead of the Website field (so it isn't clickable).
- The URL is missing https:// or has a typo.
- There are hidden spaces or special characters in the link.
- The destination page is down, moved, or blocked.
- A cached or outdated app is showing the old link.
- Instagram flagged the link as spam or unsafe.
Now let's fix it.
1. Put the link in the Website field — not the bio text
This is the #1 cause. Links typed into the bio caption are not clickable. Go to Edit profile → Website, paste your link there, and save. Only the Website field turns into a tappable link under your name.
2. Add https:// to the start
Instagram sometimes rejects or fails to render links without a protocol. Write https://yourlink.com, not just yourlink.com. This single change fixes a surprising number of "link won't save" problems.
3. Remove extra spaces and hidden characters
If you copied the link from a notes app or a chat, it may carry an invisible space at the start or end. Delete the link, type or paste it cleanly, and remove anything before https:// or after the final character.
4. Test the link in a browser first
Open the URL in any browser (outside Instagram). If it doesn't load there, the problem is the destination page — not Instagram. Fix or replace the page, then update your bio.
5. Re-save your profile
Sometimes the edit simply didn't save. Re-open Edit profile, confirm the link is in the Website field, and tap Done / the checkmark. Then reopen your profile to confirm it shows.
6. Update or restart the Instagram app
An outdated app can show a cached, old link or fail to render new ones. Update Instagram from the App Store / Play Store, fully close it, and reopen. On desktop, try a hard refresh.
7. Check if Instagram blocked the link
Instagram blocks links it considers spammy or unsafe. If a specific URL won't save or shows a warning, that domain may be flagged. Use a clean, reputable link instead — for example, your own link-in-bio page on a trusted domain.
8. Use a link-in-bio page (the permanent fix)
If your link keeps breaking — or you're constantly swapping it — switch to a link-in-bio page. You put one short, reliable URL in your bio once, then add, remove, and reorder all your links inside that page. The bio link never changes, so it never breaks again.
Still not working? Try this checklist
- Link is in the Website field, not the caption.
- It starts with https://.
- No spaces before or after.
- The page loads in a browser.
- You saved the profile.
- The app is updated.
- The domain isn't flagged.
If all seven check out and it still fails, the destination server is likely the issue — host the page somewhere reliable.
How to stop it happening again
The most common reason bio links break is that people keep editing and re-pasting them. A link-in-bio page ends that cycle: set it once, then manage everything from a dashboard. You also get one bonus — you can put your shop, socials, latest content, and contact behind that single link, and track which ones actually get tapped.
Set yours up free in about two minutes and never fight a broken bio link again.
